Alister S
Hello, I’m Alister and swimming pools are my second habitat!
Spending 10 years of my life training as a competitive swimmer, I have had lots of experience surrounding the optimal technique for swimming.
I joined the teaching team in 2019 and have been using my passion for swimming to help swimmers of a wide range of ages and abilities develop their confidence and technique.
My lessons are focused on you and what you want to achieve, with each lesson tailored step by step to help you reach your goals.
I’m looking forward to meeting you on poolside!

Alister is great! I felt really comfortable and relaxed. As an adult, learning a new skill he gaged quickly where I’m at and helped me build confidence & progression in a short period of time. For the first time, I feel encouraged that my dream of doing my 1st triathlon could become a reality ☺️

Alistair is a really good instructor, he is kind, patient and knowledgable. Alun our son who is 4 has come on leaps and bounds in the time that he has been swimming with him. I can’t recommend him highly enough, whilst the lessons are somewhat expensive swimming is such an important life skill, they are well worth the money. Alun’s confidence in the water is unrecognisable from when he started 14 lessons ago, and he is even able to swim short distances unaided now. Alistair makes sure that every lesson is fun as well as developing key skills.

Alister is a gem!
Our nine year old was making no progress at all in her one to one swimming lessons with another company. When I approached SwimExpert, Sophie on the booking phone line was so lovely and so helpful. She got us booked in with Alister in Cardiff and he's just been utterly brilliant. He's so good with our daughter, his teaching style is patient, kind and fun and she's like a different child in the water. She looks forward to lessons and is so much more confident. Can't recommend Alister highly enough!

Alistair in Cardiff is amazing!
After a shaky start with one instructor on a Friday, we found Alistair on a Sunday in Cardiff. He is amazing! My 5 year old son loves his lessons with Alistair. He makes them fun and really knows how to engage with him to get the best out of the lesson. We are so impressed that we have now started to book our daughter in with him. She has some issues with her spine and Alistair is already helping her figure out how to get over some hurdles. I thoroughly recommend Alistair and we are so happy we have him as an instructor for both kids.

FAQs
Here are a list of our most frequently asked questions from our valued customers.
That’s a tough one. How long is that piece of string? During your first lessons we will discuss your current abilities and your goals and set lesson plans that are sensible. Your instructor is the best person to give you a reasonable answer to this question once you have had a lesson or two with him or her.
Yes, unlike a lot of companies, we encourage our teachers to get in the water when needed to either demonstrate, support, or otherwise assist you in the learning process.
The most cost effective way to take lessons is to book in ‘blocks’ of lesson, and that’s how most of our customers book with us. However if you are unsure and want to try us out then you can always book a single lesson. Remember that all our lessons are backed by our progression guarantee so there is no reason not to book more than one lesson!
Lessons are generally either 30 or 60 minutes in duration. Most childrens’ lessons are 30 minutes, most adults 60 minutes, but this is dependent on your goals and needs. Why not phone the office today on 0330 111 29 29 to discuss which would be best for you?
Most likely, we have dealt with many clients with special needs and several of our instructors have additional interest or qualifications in this respect. Why not phone the office today on 0330 111 29 29 to discuss your particular needs?
Yes, our lessons are suitable for people with water anxiety. Our instructors have extensive experience supporting nervous swimmers and use gentle, confidence‑building techniques to help you overcome fear, make steady progress, and begin enjoying the water at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Unlike many swim schools, we operate all year round and are able to offer lessons also on many Bank Holidays. Simply enquire about the dates you are interested in.
Yes — in most cases you can continue lessons with the same instructor. Our instructors usually work at the same venue on the same day or across multiple days, so you can book sessions that align with their schedule. If an unexpected situation arises, such as your instructor being unwell, we will arrange another qualified instructor to teach your lesson.
Yes, you will need to bring your own towel. Towels are not provided at any of our venues (although some may charge for one if you forget to bring your towel with you)
Yes if, for example, you have two children then you can book a block of lessons and decide which child is to have which of the lessons.
Yes. All our venues allow a parent to watch their child having a lesson – some from poolside others from a viewing area. Facilities for more than one parent to view may be limited at some venues so please respect this one parent rule in this instance.
