The countdown is on for this year’s Drowning Prevention Week campaign, taking place from 13–20 June 2026. This nationwide initiative focuses on educating people of all ages about water safety and the importance of the Water Safety Code. As a result, communities across the UK are coming together to help reduce preventable accidents in and around water.
At SwimExpert, we are proud to support Drowning Prevention Week by continuing to provide high-quality swimming lessons for both children and adults. Our regular lessons continue to play an important role in building water confidence, improving swimming ability and developing lifelong safety skills.
Why Drowning Prevention Week Is Important
Water can be fun, enjoyable and beneficial for both physical and mental wellbeing. However, it can also be dangerous without the right knowledge and skills. Every year, accidental drownings occur across the UK. Many of these incidents could be prevented through better awareness, education and swimming ability.
Therefore, Drowning Prevention Week encourages everyone to learn simple but essential water safety skills. The campaign is supported by schools, leisure centres, swimming teachers, lifeguards and sports clubs across the country. Together, they help spread important safety messages within their local communities.
As a trusted swim school, SwimExpert understands that learning to swim is about more than technique alone. It is also about feeling safe, calm and confident in the water.
The Benefits of Swimming Lessons for Children and Adults
Swimming is one of the most valuable life skills a person can learn. For children, regular swimming lessons help develop confidence, coordination and water awareness from an early age. In addition, children learn important skills that support safer experiences in and around water.
For adults, swimming lessons can help improve confidence, fitness and overall wellbeing. Whether learning for the first time or returning to the pool after many years, adult lessons provide a supportive way to build skills and feel more comfortable in the water.
During SwimExpert lessons, swimmers work on important areas including:
As swimmers progress, they become more confident and capable in different water environments.
Helping Communities Stay Safer Around Water
Schools, swim schools and leisure centres are at the heart of local communities. Because of this, they play an important role in promoting water safety education.
Drowning Prevention Week gives organisations the opportunity to encourage conversations around water safety and the importance of learning to swim. Even small steps can make a big difference. For example, booking regular swimming lessons or improving water confidence can help children and adults stay safer around water in the future.
At SwimExpert, our experienced swimming teachers are passionate about helping swimmers of all ages progress in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment. Above all, we believe swimming is a skill that can benefit people throughout their lives.
