Hi, my name is Afonso! From age 9 I spent an amazing decade competing in international swimming events, which included open water. I have taken my passion for swimming into my lessons and enjoy teaching those who want to learn to swim in the pool and helping my fellow open-water lovers. Hello, I’m Alister and swimming pools are my second habitat! Spending 10 years of my life training as a competitive swimmer, I have had lots of experience surrounding the optimal technique for swimming. I joined the teaching team in 2019 and have been using my passion for swimming to help swimmers of a wide range of ages and abilities develop their confidence and technique.

I started out as a lifeguard at the age of 17 and worked my way up through the ranks as a Duty Manager, Centre Manager, and most recently a Health and Safety Manager. During this time, however, I have always had a passion for swim teaching and ensured I continued to build my knowledge and experience throughout my career.

Hi, my name is Colin. I came to swim teaching later in life having concentrated on playing various team sports until my mid 40s. Watching my daughters being taught led me to get back into the local pool and then into the wider world of swimming. So far the journey includes: being a member of four successful English Channel Relay swims, organising, managing, observing and participating in a number of open water swimming around the UK.

I always knew I wanted to work in sport and use my experience to help learners whether they be children or adults. I even started my first badminton club at the age of 15. I got my first lifesaving qualification at 13 and continued to swim for my club on and off up to masters recently. I also dabbled in water polo, just for the experience.
